Automated retained austenite measurement option with 2D detectors and automated detector movements takes XRD retained austenite measurements to the next level. Measurement time is less than five minutes for a material with 2% retained austenite content. Operation, movement visualizations, and analysis are done in Xstress Studio software.

Detector filters

K-beta filters are used to filter out K-beta radiation of a given X-ray tube. You can attach the filters on the detectors without using any tools.

X-ray tubes

X-ray tube target is selected based on the measured material lattice structure. High 2θ (theta) angle (above 145 degrees is preferred).

Special collimators

Different sized collimators are available for optimizing the irradiated measurement spot on the sample surface. The smaller the collimator, the lower the X-ray flux. Large collimators can be used to overcome large grain size problems.

Calibration – alignment – reference

Powder samples

Powder samples are zero stress and are used to set the correct 2θ (theta) scale along with the correct measurement distance.

NOTE: The powder sample material does not need to be exactly the same as the measured sample material. The peak position of the diffracted X-rays from the powder sample should be within 5 degrees from the diffraction peak position of the measured material.

Residual stress reference sample

  • Sample set includes three retained austenite reference powder samples with ~2%, ~8% and ~15% retained austenite content, and a sample tray with attachment screw holes.

Alignment tools – Xstress Camera

Xstress Camera is used to verify and align Xstress DR45 and Xstress Robot. The camera is supported in Xstress Studio 1.4.0 or newer. Xstress Studio has built-in routines to verify and measure the beam drifts in tilting, rotation and in Z-direction. Based on these results, the diffractometer can be adjusted accordingly.

Safety enclosures

Xstress Cabinet

Xstress Cabinet complements the Xstress DR45 diffractometer family. The measuring area is surrounded from all sides with a safety enclosure. Xstress Cabinet is IEC 61010 standard compliant and safe for laboratory use. The doors are equipped with safety interlocks that prevent exposure to X-rays when the doors are open.

Motion controller MC1100

MC1100 is a motion control unit that is used to control the movement of auxiliary axes. It can drive four brushed DC servomotors synchronously with high accuracy through the ethernet port.

Motor connections depend on the application where MC1100 is used.

Xstress Column

Motorized vertical Xstress Column enables easy positioning of diffractometer when measuring samples of different shapes and sizes. The vertical movements on the Xstress Column are operated in Xstress Studio software. Xstress Studio provides visualization for the vertical movements.

Xstress XY

The Xstress XY table with optimized footprint. Travel is 200 mm in the X and Y directions with accuracy of ±0.015 mm. X-Y movements are operated in Xstress Studio software. Xstress Studio provides also visualization for the movements.

Depth measuring stands

The Depth measuring stand is used to align and position a dial indicator for measuring the material removal in depth profiling. Three different measuring stand models are available. Below are listed the common features of all the three models:
